We hope your summer is going well so far! While we don’t know what school will look like in the fall, we are optimistic that we’ll have in-person learning in August so we have begun preparations for the new school year. We will send updates throughout the summer as we have new information. Please read the email below for important 2020-21 school year reminders as well as key dates to calendar.
 
Carpool
Returning families, please keep your carpool tags and bring them with you to BFA Annual Family Check-In (previously called Registration). At that time, we’ll give you the new 2020-21 validation sticker. New families will receive two carpool tags at BFA Annual Family Check-In. You may order additional carpool tags through our payments system MySchoolBucks. If you place your order before August 1, the additional tags will be available during BFA Annual Family Check-In.
 
Uniforms
The current uniform policy can always be found on our website under the ‘Parents’ tab. Keep in mind that Educational Outfitters (EO) is BFA’s only uniform vendor.

Summer Office Hours
The school is closed during the summer. Summer office hours are usually scheduled for a few hours one day per week. A separate notification will go out when office hours are approved and scheduled. Until then, email info@bfacademy.org with questions or concerns.
 
Two Step Check-In Process for All K-8 Students
 
Step #1:  DCSD Online Express Check-In will open on Monday, July 13. In order to avoid delays, before coming to BFA Annual Family Check-In, one parent from the primary household should complete DCSD Online Express Check-In for each K-8 student:
  • Update contact, address and phone number information for parents and emergency contacts;
  • Select/Update media consent elections; 
  • Review and electronically sign various required forms; 
  • Add/Update student health information;
  • Print required forms to complete and bring to BFA Annual Family Check-In; and
  • Pay student fees. (A late fee will be assessed for each student if student fees aren’t paid by Friday, August 14.)
To access and complete DCSD Online Express Check-In, you must have and be able to access your District Portal account. Parents of K-8 students NEW to DCSD will receive an email from DCSD within the first 10 days of July with instructions for setting up and activating their parent portal. Each parent should set up their own portal account.
 

Parents who have forgotten their Portal username and/or password, please email our registrar by Wednesday, June 10.

 
Step #2:  BFA Annual Family Check-In takes place  Wednesday, August 12, through Friday, August 14. Parents and K-8 students should come to BFA to complete BFA Annual Family Check-In on their assigned date (see below).
Important: Before your assigned date, you must complete DCSD Online Express Check-In as detailed above.
 
 When you come to BFA to check-in, make sure to:
  • Bring all required paperwork you completed from DCSD Online Express Check-In, including an Emergency Contact Form for EACH K-8 student and a signed copy of BFA’s Chromebook policy (if applicable).
  • Bring carpool tag(s) (returning families) for the 2020-21 validation sticker.
  • Be ready to SMILE! Student and parent photos will be taken. Order forms for student pictures will be available from DCSD Online Express Check-In Students should wear a BFA uniform shirt. Parents’ pictures will be used for their annual volunteer badges.
  • Bring student medications and completed required forms from DCSD Online Express Check-In with physician’s signature.
  • Bring copies of any legal documents or updates (custody, guardianship, etc.), if applicable.
 
BFA Annual Family Check-In dates are as follows:
 
Wednesday, August 12
Families with last name beginning A-L
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (closed for lunch break from noon until 1 p.m.)
 
Thursday, August 13
Families with last name beginning M-Z
Hours: Noon – 6:00 p.m. (closed for lunch break from 2 – 3 p.m.)  
Friday, August 14
New K-8 BFA Families ONLY
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.    
 
Middle School Electives
The complete Middle School Elective Catalogue will be sent to middle school parents by Tuesday, June 30. Parents will receive an email in July with instructions on how to select and pay for electives.
 
  • Eighth graders will be invited to choose their electives beginning Monday, July 6;
  • Seventh graders can choose electives beginning Wednesday, July 8; and
  • Sixth graders may select their electives beginning Friday, July 10.
 
All elective choices should be made by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.
 
Teacher Assignments/Middle School Schedules
Elementary parents will be notified of their student’s homeroom teacher via email on Monday, August 3.
 
Middle school schedules will be available from Infinite Campus beginning August 3.
6th-8th grade students should print and bring their schedules with them the first day of school.
Other Important Dates to Note
First Day of School – Wednesday, August 19
Students should wear their Formal Uniform, which is a navy polo with the BFA logo and tan pants, shorts, skirt or a skort.
