A message from Principal Simpson…
I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Yesterday, the Governing Board and I spent all day at our yearly retreat developing plans and goals for the 21-22 school year. I wanted to share two very exciting highlights of our meeting with you.
The first highlight is that our funding from the state came in higher than we had expected. This change allowed us to look over our budget and see what changes we can make that would impact families, students, and staff in the most positive way. One of the most significant changes is that we will NOT be charging any student fees this year. We are excited to pass these savings along to families while still providing all the necessary school supplies and materials that students and teachers need.
The second highlight is related to COVID. As DCSD and other school districts have announced, we believe (unless something changes this summer) that we will be able to open in August with the following changes:
- No masks will be required, though students and staff may choose to wear them.
- Classes will be able to mix and mingle throughout grade levels.
- Lockers and electives will be back for middle school.
- Only symptomatic students will be required to isolate. We will not be quarantining anyone based on “exposures.”
These changes are dependent on there not being any further mandates from the state or the health department. IF there are health department or other agency requirements, we will comply with all public health orders. At this time, we do not anticipate there being any mandates that we will need to follow, but we will keep you informed if things change.
We will share other updates from the Board Retreat throughout the summer. Later this week, you will be receiving a very detailed email about registration and beginning of the year activities. In addition, Middle School families will soon receive the electives catalog and instructions on registering for electives which will happen the week of July 5th.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please email me.
