Getting Ready for High School
Automatic Enrollment at “Feeder” High School
Students with a primary address in Douglas County will be automatically enrolled at their designated Douglas County School District (DCSD) “feeder” high school in December of their 8th-grade year.
Important: If parents live in separate households, the student’s primary address determines their feeder high school. To verify your child’s primary household and/or DCSD feeder high school, email BFA’s Director of Admissions.
Open Enrollment
To be eligible for admissions at a DCSD high school that is not the student’s feeder school, the parent/guardian must complete Open Enrollment. (OE). OE begins in November.
Please note: A student cannot have multiple DCSD enrollments for the same school year. If you accept an Open Enrollment offer, that school (not the feeder) will be your child’s high school through 12th grade.
Admissions at a Non-DCSD High School (Public, Private or Online)
Students who plan to attend a public school outside of the Douglas County School District, a private high school, or an online school should visit that school’s website, or contact the school directly, for more information about their application process, timeline, and requirements.
Please review the process for requesting your child’s BFA records from the Student Records and Transcripts page.
Crucial Step: Releasing Your Child’s Spot
As of January of your child’s 8th-grade year, if your child enrolls and plans to attend a public school outside of the Douglas County School District, a private high school or online school, you must release their DCSD spot. To do so, please email the name of your child’s new school to BFA’s Director of Admissions and/or the registrar at the DCSD high school where they are enrolled.
Confirming Your Child’s High School Admissions
In the spring, before your student graduates from BFA, you will receive an email from BFA’s Director of Admissions to confirm your child’s high school choice.
Once confirmed, if plans change at any point, it’s crucial that you notify BFA’s Director of Admissions right away. Without accurate information on where your child will attend high school, they can be marked as a dropout with the district and state.
Admissions at a Douglas County School District (DCSD) High School
As a non-Douglas County resident, to be eligible for admissions at a DCSD high school, the parent/guardian must complete Open Enrollment.
Important: Please email BFA’s Director of Admissions as soon as possible if you move into Douglas County and want your child to attend the DCSD high school “feeder” for the new address.
Crucial Step: Releasing Your Child’s Spot
If you accept an Open Enrollment offer at a DCSD high school, but later decide to enroll at a non-DCSD school (private, online, or out-of-district public), you must release the DCSD spot.
Before releasing the spot, make sure that your child’s admissions/enrollment at the other school has been confirmed. Then, email the name of the new school to BFA’s Director of Admissions and the registrar at the DCSD high school where they are enrolled. The DCSD high school registrar will release the spot to another student.
Admissions at a Non-DCSD High School (Public, Private or Online)
If your child plans to attend a public school outside of the Douglas County School District, a private high school, or an online school, and records are required, visit that school’s website, or contact the school directly, for specifics about their application process, timeline, and requirements.
To request records from BFA for your student, please visit the Student Records and Transcripts page.
