Ben Franklin Academy’s (BFA) middle school electives offer a wide range of STEAM and physical education classes.  Our electives classes are always 7th period and run on an “A/B Day” schedule.

Students whose accounts are not paid in full may be restricted from participating in certain activities. This includes (but not limited to) school sports, registering for fee-based electives, clubs, musical, and attending Outdoor Education.

helpful INformation

MySchoolBucks Helpful Tips:

Parents will only see the “A Day” and “B Day” elective options beginning around 9:00 a.m. on the day their student’s grade is scheduled to select electives.

For the best experience, we recommend using a computer/desktop or a browser on your phone rather than the MySchoolBucks app. If the options do not appear at the expected time, please try refreshing the page or logging out and back into MySchoolBucks.

Helpful Tip on What is Available:

Parents will now be able to see what electives are “Full” or have “Limited Availability” around 4:00 p.m. the evening before by viewing the Name of Each Elective below.  We will be updating the list frequently, but 4:00 p.m. will be the best time for parents to help guide their students.  Once the electives open, if an elective is not showing in MySchoolBucks during the selection process, this means the elective is now full.

You may need to click the refreah button on your browser to get the newest information.  Sometimes bookmarking, cookies and cache on browsers can interfere with your webbrowser.

What Happens if a Parents doesn’t register or registers for the wrong elective?

Students who do not have a selected elective by August 6 will be placed in an elective with available space.

If a parent selects the wrong elective for their student, they must email Jen Jones as soon as possible. Please note that elective changes are not guaranteed and will only be considered after August 6. No refunds will be issued for incorrect elective selections.

Additional Information on how electives work at BFA

  • Electives run on an A/B schedule, meaning that they rotate every other day. Students will register for two electives (one for A day, and one for B day). The registration process will be online in the MySchoolBucks system on a seniority basis with eighth graders registering first, seventh registering second, and sixth graders last. All registrations are on a first come first served basis, so it is crucial that parents register during their student’s window.
  • Within the classes offered each trimester, there are spots for more than 310 students. However, every class has a limit to the number of students per class.
  • Several classes require pre-approval from the teacher, so please take that into consideration. These are noted in the class descriptions below. If you register for one of these classes and do not have pre-approval then you will be moved to a class with a vacancy.
  • We are also limiting the number of students who can sign up for Study Hall, as each student has an advisory class during their schedule each day. This advisory class generally allows students additional time for studying and homework.
  • Please double check that you selected the correct elective when registering through MySchoolBucks. If you accidentally register for the wrong elective, please email Jen Jones. Any elective changes (if available) will be made after the full registration process is complete. If the elective carries a fee, parents will be invoiced. Refunds will not be issued for incorrect elective selections.
  • While the front office is not open everyday during the summer, you can still email Jen Jones for elective questions or concerns.
