As parents and guardians, you should have received an email from DCSD about the potential high winds and possible power outages for tomorrow, December 17.

We wanted to follow up letting you know that Ben Franklin Academy plans to follow DCSD for any closure or early dismissal and would like to reiterate the following.

Planned and unplanned outages are possible. We are asking our families to be prepared to make arrangements should the following scenarios occur.

  • Should we be notified of planned power outages at BFA, we may need to close the school on Wednesday, December 17 (depending on the length of power outages this could continue into Thursday, December 18). Should the school close, we will notify families by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow via email and text message. We will also post the closing on the BFA website, BFA App notification and social media pages.
  • If we are not notified of planned power outages prior to 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, then schools will open as normal. However, should a power outage occur during the school day, we may ask our families to be available to pick up their children as part of an early dismissal.  Should the school dismiss early, we will notify families immediately via email, text message, the BFA website, BFA App notification and social media pages.

You always have the option of keeping your child home if you feel that the roads or winds are unsafe even if the school is open. Email us to let us know. This will be listed as an excused absence.

Thank you,

Ben Franklin Academy
