Getting Ready for High School

It’s an exciting time: your BFA 8th grader is preparing for high school!

The application and enrollment process for high school can start as early as October of your child’s 8th-grade year. These pages provide important information and guidance to help you navigate this process.

To get started, please select the tab that corresponds to the primary address that BFA has for your child:
  • Douglas County Residents
  • Non-Douglas County Residents
If you have questions, are uncertain whether BFA has a Douglas County or non-Douglas country primary address for your child, or need to request an address change, please email BFA’s Director of Admissions.

Automatic Enrollment

Students with a primary address in Douglas County are automatically enrolled at their designated Douglas County School District (DCSD) “feeder” high school in December of their 8th-grade year.

Important: If parents live in separate households, the student’s primary address determines their feeder high school. To verify your child’s primary household and/or DCSD feeder high school, or to update their primary address, please email BFA’s Director of Admissions.

Open Enrollment

To be eligible for enrollment at a DCSD high school that is not your child’s feeder school, you must complete Open Enrollment.

Please note: A student cannot have multiple enrollments in the same school year. If you accept an Open Enrollment offer, that school (not the feeder) will be your child’s high school through 12th grade.

Enrollment at a Non-DCSD High School (Public, Private or Online)

Students who plan to attend a public school outside of the Douglas County School District, a private high school, or an online school, should visit that school’s website, or contact the school directly, for more information about their application process, timeline, and requirements.

To request records from BFA for your student, please visit the Student Records and Transcripts page.

Crucial Step: Releasing Your Child’s Spot

As of January of your child’s 8th-grade year, if you enroll your child at a non-DCSD high school and are are certain that they will not attend a DCSD high school, you must release their DCSD spot. To do so, please email the name of your child’s new school to BFA’s Director of Admissions and/or the registrar at the DCSD high school where they are enrolled.

Confirming Your Child’s High School Enrollment

In the spring, before your student graduates from BFA, you will receive an email from BFA’s Director of Admissions to confirm your child’s high school choice.

Once confirmed, if plans change at any point, it’s crucial that you notify BFA’s Director of Admissions right away. Without accurate information on where your child will attend high school, they can be marked as a dropout with the district and state.

Enrollment at a Douglas County School District (DCSD) High School

As a non-Douglas county resident, to be eligible for enrollment at a DCSD high school, please complete Open Enrollment.

Important: If your child’s primary household address changes from non-Douglas County to Douglas County, please email BFA’s Director of Admissions as soon as possible.

Crucial Step: Releasing Your Child’s Spot

If you accept a DCSD Open Enrollment offer but your child decides to attend a non-DCSD high school, you must release their spot.

Once you have finalized enrollment at the non-DCSD school, please email the name of the new school to BFA’s Director of Admissions and/or the registrar at the DCSD high school where they are enrolled.
