Battle of the Books is a bowl-style trivia tournament that’s all about books, engaging hundreds of young minds every year.  We have teams made up of Grades 3 & 4 and Grades 5 & 6.

Ready for Battle of the Books 25/26?

This year, we have two coaches to help lead the charge!

What is it?

Battle of the Books is an extracurricular reading competition sponsored by Douglas County Libraries. Each participating school is assigned the same 10 books to read and master to the smallest detail. In January, February and a little of March, schools compete against each other by answering questions that test their knowledge.

When does it start?

Students will need to finish reading all 10 books by the end of December (more exact date to come) and battles start in January.

What is the commitment?

  • One practice per week (before or after school) starting in December
  • One battle per week from Jan- March (after school)

Faculty Coaches

  • Mrs. Van Wyk will be coaching the 3rd and 4th-grade team.
  • Mrs. Lukasiewicz will be coaching the 5th and 6th-grade team.

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy a fun challenge with friends? Then Battle of the Books is for you! Students in grades 3–6 can join a team, read some great books, and compete in a quiz-style battle to show off what you’ve learned. It’s a fun way to discover new stories, work together, and see how much you remember from your reading.

Get ready to battle! These are the books that this year’s trivia battle questions will be based upon. All of these titles will be available as “Your Lucky Day” books at your local DCL branch.

For more information, including how to sign up, email Mrs. Van Wyk. Sign up today and get ready to read, compete, and have a blast in the Battle of the Books!
