Dances at BFA are not formal events. While some students enjoy dressing up for the event, it is not required. Below are the guidelines for dance attire.
Dresses/Skirts/Shorts:
- Length must be no more than 4 inches above the knee.
- Slits in skirts must be no higher than 4 inches above the knee.
- Dresses should have a modest neckline and not fall below or show undergarments. The back of the dress must not dip below mid back or show undergarments.
- No exposed midriff even when hands are raised, and no cut outs on torso area (back, sides, stomach).
- No strapless dresses. Straps of any width are acceptable and there must be a strap on both shoulders.
- No dresses are permitted that are open or sheer on the front or sides of the dress, unless the area has solid material underneath.
Other guidelines:
- Clothes shall be modest, in good condition, neat in appearance, and meet appropriate length requirements as stated above.
- Students are not allowed to wear pajama items or clothing that contains wording or images that could be interpreted as racial, vulgar, disruptive or offensive in any way.
- No hats or sunglasses will be permitted.
Costumes worn for themed dances must follow all above stated guidelines and:
- Faces must be visible at all times
- No costumes that impede movement, making it difficult for the wearer to walk or would be a tripping hazard for others.
- No handheld props
Suggestions:
- Be aware of material that gathers and rises when you walk or dance. Clothing should be comfortable and able to stay in place during movement.
- Think carefully about shoes – many girls opt for cute tennis shoes as opposed to heels so they are more comfortable walking and dancing!
Admin and BFA staff will be checking your outfit before you enter the dance. If you do not follow the above guidelines, parents will be called to pick you up. While the adults do not enjoy having to do this, we are committed to enforcing these guidelines to ensure we are consistent in our expectations for all students.
